Sorry we only offer it with a choice of talons. You are free to use it without but we feel it is a better system with the Talon. The Divide and exposure packs are designed primarily to be used without a Talon

Thanks

I am probably not your normal backpacker and I am used to removing side compression systems from packs but the Unaweep works just fine without a Talon. I just don't stuff my quilt, down jacket etc, in stuffsacks and use top compression to secure my load.

Having a simple streamlined pack is something I have grown to like, but if I were buying today, I would consider a Divide even with the rear pocket and think it would work better for most backpackers. I already had a 4800 pack and now have a 3900 pack bag as well. The ease of changing between packbags is a really neat bennifit to the Unaweep system.

I will say that the Talon system would be a fantastic way to secure an akward or large item to the pack, like a packraft or packraft paddle, etc.

For many backpackers 4500 seems really big, but I bet the pack isn't necessarily as big as some think. To the top of the frame it is probably a much more usable size and then has the extension collar for when you need extra capacity for longer trips. Volume isn't as easy to calculate for the tapered Divide as it is for the straight Fortress bags (3900=40", 4800=44") but I imagine at the top of the frame it is more like 3300 ci with the rest of the volume in the roll top.

Again, the frame system carries weight very well and the ability to change bags is a very nice feature.

I too was thinking the 4500 is too large but the bottom is narrower than the top. This allows a bear canister in too and also keeps pack seemly smaller when compressed. This is the 2016 divide on me yesterday. Might give you some sort of reference. I too was using a 3900 sans Talon as my go to backpacking set up but after the new changes and the improved mesh pocket this pack will have my 3900 hanging as a backup.

It should be noted, about 1000 - 1200 CI is above the 24 inch frame, so rolled to frame height it is more in the 3300 - 3500 range. Our focus was really making what we thought was the best pack we could, that could handle standard backpacking needs (bear cans, water bottle, mesh pocket) and heavier loads if needed, and to let volume fall where it may instead of trying to get a number.

Interesting to know.
Does that also remain if you use the 4" extenders (my torso is ~23") ?

Any pics anywhere on how and where to best attach the Cross Stay? If not, any advice or suggestions?
