How hard are you on your pack ?

How hard are you on your pack , outside of loads and general usage ? What kind of abuse do you do ? Is it primarily bushwhacking or is it rock abrasion and throwing it down a cliff side?

I don't baby my kit, but I do take care of it. I always have my pack in my Jeep. My pack is shoved around, removed, and that's the abuse it gets. I'm an SAR member and always have my pack.

I try and take care of my stuff, but the country I hunt tries its best to ruin it.

Let me add some color to the discussion. The xpac fabrics like VX21 do very well with brush type of abrasion. Where they don't fair so well is in rock, like squeezing through slick rock , or haul looping a pack where it is banging in to rocks. Even cordura won't fair so well in the rock bashing department.

If you are hard on gear, what is the primary cause ? Is rock bashing and scree slopes on your butt inevitable or is it brush or some other. I'm just trying to gauge the best for our users usage

Thanks

Sat on, slid down, drug up....sandstone, limestone(worst)and basalt. Up, under and through Catclaw, mesquite, oak brush, manzanita. I like solids, waterproof not a huge consideration in Az., but nice. 500d does well. I do with the 33 and 42 was made in grey/green.

We have contemplated having the 33 made in gray

The occasional scree slide on my butt or fall and lots of bushwhacking... That being said the thought of throwing my pack off a cliff has never entered my mind while in the field.

Bushwacking is the most I do when things are getting rough for the pack. Sometimes it's rock abrassion but it's less frequent than bushawacking. throwing down the back pack from a cliff? Might happen some time but not with the intention to retrieve it rather saving myself or someone else.
