Any details on this upcoming pack? I saw some posts about it on backpacking light a few months ago.

Hi crowfessor . I have a sample but it isn't a priority at the moment and am not sure it doesn't give up too much in comparison to a divide ... at least IMO the weight savings are not currently worth it.

The bigger question probably is are people more willing to sacriifice features in the pack bag or the suspension / carry

Hi,

I'm wondering if any more progress has been made on the California special? To answer the earlier question, I think most lightweight and ultra lightweight backpackers are willing to give up more on features than on the suspension. If Seek Outside is able to produce an external frame pack capable of comfortably carrying 30 pounds, while keeping the weight of the pack closer to 2 ponds, you would have a great thru hiker pack. Please contact me if you're looking for people to test a prototype!

VERY true, the new Brooks is simply THE pack I have wanted all of my life and I have owned/used a LOT of highend packs since 1968.

I could use a 3500 Divide in eyepopping orange as my daily hike-snowshoe pack as I do not carry any emerg. gear other than what I need on these day excursions and this would be ideal.

So, I am also suffering from "killing" and am eager to see this rig! Tough life, eh? ;)

Lol. I think you hit the nail on the head...a nice, but rather silly, first world problem deciding which 3-4 of the 10 bags I am interested in I need in order to fill all the specific situations I can imagine myself in, lol.
