I will definitely be bringing just the nest on lots of shorter trips with reasonable weather predicted. I plan to use solid site selection and natural cover but getting caught in a serious rain still makes me a little a nervous. As I already carry a poncho I came up with this rig as a supplement to the more exposed areas of the nest so it could handle a bit more rain comfortably.
I expect the pitch of the poncho will be at least a little tighter when outside and using real stakes, but this was pretty easy and would certainly help in a down pour so I am pleased it actually works even if not so pretty. Overall I'm undecided how useful this will be for me as I'm not big on using rain gear as a shelter. But this isn't a shelter its a shelter supplement so I'll try it out in the woods sometime and see how it goes. If I really like it I may have a poncho tarp made to fit this pitch a bit better as I'm in the market for a new poncho anyway.
Any feedback or ideas are always appreciated.Statistics: Posted by Log9mm — Tue Dec 02, 2014 9:00 pm
